Biography

Hilary K. Chernin is an accomplished litigation attorney with extensive experience at all stages of criminal proceedings, from arraignment to trial. 

Prior to working with Rosenberg, Ms. Chernin was an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office where she held the title of Assistant District Attorney in the Felony Trial Bureau. In that capacity, she handled the prosecution of serious felony cases, including homicides, shootings, stabbings, robberies, burglaries, assaults, and drug and gun possession. In addition, Ms. Chernin handled several high profile media cases which appeared in local print and broadcast media. She has also successfully argued before the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court, Second Department. 

Ms. Chernin was also one of the two Assistant District Attorneys at the Bronx District Attorney’s Office that was assigned to identify, review, and investigate “violent crime cold cases” which had the potential to be solved using DNA analysis and to locate and analyze the biological evidence associated with these cases. She has extensive experience in the litigation of medical and scientific issues related to criminal law, particularly with respect to all current forensic DNA technologies. 

Since leaving the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office,  Ms. Chernin has zealously used the knowledge, trial experience, and professional relationships she built during her time at the DA’s office to represent and defend the rights of her clients. Ms. Chernin also serves on both the Westchester County 18B Assigned Counsel Panel and the Bronx County 18B Assigned Counsel Panel, providing criminal defense to indigent clients charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses throughout Westchester and the Bronx.  

Ms. Chernin received her Bachelor of Arts from Skidmore College and a Juris Doctorate from New York Law School. She is licensed to practice law in New York State, and is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
